Middle and High School kids, come join the fun at the library on Friday, March 12 from 6-8 pm. Movie, cards, treasure hunt, create-your-own t-shirt (1st come,1st served), snacks provided. Then at 8 pm, the Stowe Rec Center will be having a Capture-the-Flag game in the Elementary School gym. For ages 12 & up. For more information, please call Julie at the library at 253-6145. Event sponsored by the library Teen Advisory Board.

The American Library Association announced the following 2010 Childrens and Young Adult Book Awards on Monday, January 18th: The Caldecott Medal for picture book illustration was awarded to Jerry Pinkney for his book The Lion & the Mouse. Caldecott Honors were given to Pamela Zagarenski for Red Sings from Treetops and Marla Frazee for All the World.

Julie finds a great new website for getting kids to read.

There are many, many sites on the web that are designed with the purpose of getting kids to read. Some are better than others. Recently I stumbled onto a great one -- James Pattersons Read Kiddo Read. The website is visually appealing with categories presented in a clearly delineated, user-friendly format. The home page features recommended books by age level, followed by contests to enter, books for boys, interviews with authors, books to buy for Christmas and more. Click on a category and more options are at your finger tips.
