OverDrive Downloadable Audio Books
Starting March 1, we are excited to offer downloadable audio book service to our card holders through the Listen Up! Vermont program, brought to you by the Green Mountain Library Consortium. This service is brought to you by OverDrive.
Access the service directly at http://www.listenupvermont.org.
Participation in the Listen Up! Vermont program was made possible through a generous grant from the Oakland Foundation.
Free Downloadable Audio Books
There are many services online to access downloadable audio books in the public domain. Try some of the following sites:
- Audio Books for Free, http://www.audiobooksforfree.com/
- Learn Out Loud, http://www.learnoutloud.com/Free-Audio-Video
- LibriVox, http://librivox.org/, one of the best-known sites, focuses entirely on recordings of works in the public domain
Downloadable Audio Books for the print-disabled
If you meet the criteria for services through the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, you might be interested in the service provided by Unabridged (http://www.unabridged.info). Unabridged provides content to eligible individuals through OverDrive, and the collection is astounding.
Call the Special Services Unit of the Vermont Department of Libraries at 1.800.479.1711 for more information on the program, and to determine eligibility. We would be more than happy here at the Stowe Free Library to assist you in completing any necessary paperwork to access the program.
