Stowe Free Library

 

The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m.

 

A motion was made and approved to accept the minutes of the January 8, 2009 meeting.

 

TREASURER'S REPORT - Louise Thompson reported for Johanna Darrow that the balance in the check book is $18,137.93. $1,750 of that amount is pledged to forthcoming expenses such as the Gazebo concerts. The Friends have a money market account in the amount of $5,000. Chairs are advised that the 2009-10 budget figures are due by May 1. It is suggested that the past budget be used as a guide to formulating the new budget figures.

 

PRESIDENT'S REPORT - Louise Thompson announced that Nancy Harries has resigned from the Hospitality Committee. Members were reminded that we have had no vice president for over two years and that the vacancy will be announced at the annual meeting in May. Johanna Darrow suggested that we have members-at-large on the Executive Committee to represent the general membership. This could result in only one annual general membership meeting. Dee Reever will chair the annual meeting this year.

 

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT - Ronna Ziegel. New refrigerator magnets with the library hours will be ordered once we have a quorum to approve their purchase.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS - Dee Reever. It was suggested that we investigate purchasing a new, lighter weight sandwich board to be used for the book/plant sale. A street banner for events was also mentioned, however members present felt a street banner was too expensive at this time.

 

A suggestion was made that copies of the minutes be available at the desk for those members without email.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30.

The annual meeting of the Friends of Stowe Free Library will be on May 5, 2009. The speaker will be Dennis Bathory-Kitsz, author of "Country Stores of Vermont".
