Why You Really Love Poetry: a free program October 26 at 1:30pm

Through a gift from the Sandra Fearons estate, Stowe Free Library and Lamoille Valley Osher Lifelong Learning Institute offer a free program.  Join UVM Professor Emeritus Michael Atkinson, who will share some of the best poems ever written.

Where Poems Come From - A Workshop Saturday, Nov. 12th

Poet Julia Shipley will conduct a one day workshop on writing poetry. The focus is on kindling new ways to create poems.  Participants will experiment with five different writing exercises.  Whether you've just published your ninth volume or never written a poem at all, join Julia for a stimulating four hours of creativity.

Book talk at Vermont Ski Museum

The Vermont Ski Museum will present an author talk on Invasion on the Mountain: the Adventures of Will Ryan and the Civilian conservation Corps, 1933.  Writer Judith Edwards will discuss her book, meant for middle grade and older students.  Join the conversation about the young hero and the development of the ski area at Mount Mansfield State Park.

Program begins at 7 PM on Wednesday, October 19th.

Department of Homeland Security seeks public comments

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection, under the aegis of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has asked public libraries to make available a CD-Rom.  Members of the public may use the CD in the library, or sign it out for a day. The purpose is to solicit comments on the potential environmental and socioeconomic effects associated with its security activiries along the border between the United States and Canada.  The CD will be available between September 16, 2011 and October 31, 2011.
