Lamoille County Nature Programs begin this September.
The Lamoille County Nature Center will present a free once-a-month after school nature series for children in grades 2-4 at the library. These fun, interactive programs feature a Vermont animal or a seasonal topic. Kids learn about the natural world around them while playing games, listening to stories, and doing a small craft project. The library asks parents to take turns providing a healthy snack. Each program begins after school at 3 and ends at 4 pm. Parents are asked to pick their child up promptly at the end of each program.
The Lamoille County Nature Center Naturalist Series fall dates are:
September 15 - Harvest Happenings. Where do pumpkins come from? Why are apples red? What other kinds of foods are we harvesting at this time of year and how do they grow? What does it mean to be a local-vore?
October 6 - Bats are Beautiful. We’ll learn the real deal about these frequently misunderstood mammals. We’ll investigate the basics of bat biology, bat foods, and the life of bat babies.
November 17 - Busy Beavers. The focus of this workshop is on how beavers prepare for the winter months, how they survive through the winter, and the ins and outs of their homes.
December 15 - Powering the Planet--Solar Energy. As we enter the official start of winter, it’s a great time to explore the sun’s place in space, how the sun gives people energy to shake and shiver, and all about solar energy.
This series will continue in January and run through May. Winter and spring themes will be announced at a later date. Please call the library at 253-6145 to register your child for this fun after-school activity!
