Each year, I look forward to The Morning News Tournament of Books. Set up like the NCAA brackets, the Tournament pits books against each other in a series of matches where a literary or cultural person reviews the two books and picks a winner.

This year, the final was between Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall and Barbara Kingsolver's The Lacuna. I picked Wolf Hall for the winner back when the brackets were announced -- Wolf Hall won the Man Booker Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award, and I found it to be a fascinating, engrossing, encompassing read.
