Congratulations, Julie!

Julie Pickett, Children’s Librarian at Stowe Free Library, has been appointed to serve a three-year term on the DCF Committee.  The DCF Award is a Vermont prize given yearly for a new American children’s book. The award was created to honor Dorothy Canfield Fisher, a resident of Arlington, VT who was a prolific author, an innovator in education for adults and children (she brought Montessori to America), and for 25 years a literary force as a member of the Book-of-the-Month Club selection committee. Vermont school children vote each year on their favorites from a list compiled by the DCF committee.  Past winners include The Incredible Journey, by Sheila Burnford (1963), Ribsy, by Beverly Cleary (1966), Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry (1991), and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, by Jeff Kinney (2009).

Appointment to the committee is a high honor, and we are very proud of Julie.  We wish her well as she plows through the hundreds of submissions for this year’s list!
