Meet Owney the travelling stuffed dog at Evening Story Time
On Thursday evening, July 23, at 6 pm, the library will hold a Teddy Bear Sleepover Story Time. Children are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal that will spend the night at the library. Special guest Owney the Mail-Pouch Pooch will be sleeping over as well! In real life, Owney was a stray dog who, in 1888, wandered into the U.S. Post Office in Albany, New York where he was found the next day sound asleep on a pile of mail bags. Owney became a permanent member of the Albany Post Office, where he became a guard dog criss-crossing the country on railroad trains that carried the mail. A children's book was published last year about Owney and is a current title on the Red Clover Children's Choice Award list. A stuffed Owney is travelling from library-to-library in Vermont and he will arrive in Stowe just in time for the Sleepover!! What fun your animals will have at the library on Thursday night!
