The Upside of the Downturn series begins, May 19 at 7pm
So much of our news these days happens to be bad news… but in times like these, there are many occasions to take a deep look at our financial, mental, spiritual, and physical lives and recognize opportunities, make changes, and overcome challenges.
To this end, the Stowe Free Library, including Board of Trustee member Jo Sabel Courtney, have partnered with Dr. Rick Barnett, Psy. D., Holly Rochefort and Emerging, and the Union Bank to hold a series of programs focusing on The Upside of the Downturn.
Our first session is set to begin on Tuesday, May 19 at 7pm in the Reading Room at the Stowe Free Library.
The Upside of the Downturn: Mind & Spirit will feature an open discussion about the psychological impact of the recession with local psychologist, Dr. Rick Barnett, Psy.D. Topics include symptom recognition, values clarification, resilience, and effective coping strategies. Part of the session will focus on how to cope with job loss – your own, or of someone you love.
The second session on Tuesday, June 2 at 7pm, The Upside of the Downturn: Body,
will feature Holly Rochefort of Emerging, the new wellness cooperative on the Mountain Road. This session will focus on a holistic look at the impact of stress on our bodies and the ways in which we can help ourselves look and feel better in stressful times.
Our final session, on Tuesday, June 16 at 7pm, The Upside of the Downturn: Pocket, will feature staff from the Union Bank. How can we tighten our belts without feeling the pinch? How can we not stress about money? How can we find the bright side in doing with less?
No registration is needed for these free programs, which will be held at the Stowe Free Library. Resources and handouts will be available for participants; attendees will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win prizes related to our series goals, including an 80-minute massage from Emerging.
